Hypnosis for Stopping Smoking – Kick the habit, get a life!
A lot of hypnotherapists, including me, have been successfully using methods of hypnotherapy to help their clients in giving up the habit. The Iowa research has also proven that hypnosis for stopping smoking indeed showed better results than people who had been trying to give it up with no intervention, how else could it’s success rate be double of every method. A lot of smokers who want to quit the habit have failed in their efforts because of lack of will power and determination. However, clients who have used hypnotherapy seemed to set up a stronger example in terms of abstaining and a greater willpower.
Here’s how hypnosis for stopping smoking works- it works on the simple philosophy of positive suggestions. In hypnotherapy, a lot has to do with the power of your subconscious mind and helping it achieve great feats with the help of auto suggestion. When the method of hypnotherapy is used for smoking, it tells you the reasons of why and how you smoke, before moving on to suggestions of how you can stop smoking, and maintain the abstinence. With hypnotherapy you gradually instruct your mind to create positive thoughts, and build willpower in the face of temptations of nicotine and smoke.
It might sound very easy to you, but the fact is that it indeed is easy to use hypnosis for stopping smoking. One session with a hypnotherapist is all you need. By deciding to give up the habit, you have already made the hardest decision in the quitting process. Things only get better from here! The key to a successful no-smoking life is to follow the hypnosis routine regularly, as it is only practice that makes one perfect in self-hypnosis. Remember hypnosis for quitting smoking works on the power of positive suggestion; the more time you invest in self-hypnosis for smoking, the better the results. Add on sessions are offered by most therapists; however I personally feel that these top up sessions should only be used when extremely necessary. Hypnosis is about self reliance, so you shouldn’t be dependent on your therapist for all guidance. Be your own driver!
Smoking is a habit, whether it’s good or bad is an individual decision. But if you have decided to give it up, don’t let anything stop you. You have no idea how proud you will a year from now, when you refuse a cigarette offered to you. It will not only boost your confidence and self-worth, but it will also lead to a heavier pocket. If you are a chain smoker, you could end up saving a great deal (close to £ 2000); and then you could go ahead and splurge on a lavish holiday. A luxurious holiday in the Bahamas in exchange of 20 cigarettes a day…seems like a good deal. Just think about it!
I will not even shy away from saying that quitting smoking is child’s play; but only if you know the best way to achieve this. Nicotine is one of the hardest habits to break in the world, but hypnosis for stopping smoking could be your answer. Through positive affirmations you could achieve much more than just ridding yourself of the **** of all problems. Imagine having a healthier life, better performance at work, more stamina to play your favorite sport, and quality time with your family. Isn’t it just the life you want?

How Hypnotherapy Helps People To Stop Smoking
More addictive than heroin we hear, or I’ve tried but….from a friend who gave up before, as they pick up a new cigarette.
It is not only the physical addiction, but also the social aspect of the habit that is difficult for the smoker to break.
The routine becomes part of the fabric of their day, be it stepping outside for a first cigarette, sitting in a pub with a pint and beer and smoke with a friend, or just the daily chat with the friendly tobacconist: once these moments are woven into the fabric of our lives the habit becomes more and more difficult to break.
The medical profession advise a wide range of treatments that should help you to quit smoking, mainly related to drugs and other prescription items.
While the profit model for the suppliers of this range of patches, gums, and replacement therapies is easy to see, the effectiveness for the average smoker-to-quit is less clear.
In many cases the addiction to nicotine by cigarette is only replaced to addiction to nicotine by patch, and the underlying reasons for the smoker’s wanting to pick up their next cigarette remain un-altered.
And as a smoker finds them falling straight back onto habits that they know they would prefer to have let behind them but seem unable to, their belief in their own self determination and personal choice can start to wain.
And what is going on behind all of this? While the smoker ‘decides’ to quit the habit using their conscious mind, it is the unconscious mind that each time overrides this choice, and sees you reaching for yet another cigarette.
So how can you go about translating the choices made by your conscious mind to the sub-conscious one and making those choices stick?
Well one route to altering those decisions that we keep on making is by talking directly to the subconscious a skill known as hypnotherapy.
The smoker listens to the voice of the hypnotherapist, and becomes relaxed. They sometimes fall asleep or become drowsy, but equally often feel themselves to be fully awake throughout.
The hypnotherapist makes what is known as ’suggestions’ to the smoker, and it is these that sinking more deeply into the smokers mind start to effect the real decision that the smoker makes at let’s call it ‘next cigarette time’.
Oddly enough the soon-to-be ex smoker finds themself in a strange situation:
-Their desire for that next cigarette is not what it used to be.
-The reasons for quitting that they have understood for so long, yet been unable to act on seem more important, and less easy to suspend from the mind for those critical moments prior to taking action.
-The strength of resolve that had previously crumbled so easily seems for no apparent reason to return.
How easy is it in this situation to feel braver than before?
How easy to actually take the action that you had always hoped you would, and say No thanks I’m a non-smoker.
Surprised? You probably will be, but that’s hypnotherapy to stop smoking!

Stop Smoking – This Works for Three out of Four Smokers: Part 1
If you want to quit, a hypnotherapist can usually help you in a single session – with one and a half hour’s hypnotherapy, and a Stop Smoking CD.
There are no miracle cures, but making a commitment is a big step forward.
Why do you want to Stop Smoking?
. Improve your health . Smoking is too expensive . Stop smelling so foul . Frightened of getting cancer . Want to see your children grow up
So, why do you Smoke?
Smoking is a way of dealing with tension, and it is sometimes of way of rewarding ourselves, a habit, pleasurable relaxation or psychological addiction – However, There are two important provisos to stop:
1. You must have a strong motivation for stopping the habit, its not enough that you have been told you must stop – you must want to stop of your own free will.
2. You must be prepared to stop smoking altogether – unfortunately very few people are prepared to stop completely – they only want to cut down. However, once you put a cigarette in your mouth, you will have to start again from the beginning.
What are the Dangers of Smoking?
Coronary heart disease is the leading cause of death in many countries. Smokers under the age of 65 are about twice as likely to die of coronary heart disease as non-smokers, and heavy smokers are roughly three times more likely to die.
Disease of the arteries of the legs, is even more closely associated with smoking -95% of the people with this disease are smokers, it often results in thrombosis of the leg, leading to gangrene through poor circulation and can end with amputation of the leg being necessary.
Respiratory Problems
Chronic bronchitis and emphysema are responsible for thousands of deaths each year in the United Kingdom – they are a big cause of illness, absence from work and disability. Severe emphysema is very rarely found in non-smokers.
The Heart
Nicotine causes a rise in blood pressure and an increase in the heartbeat – this happens because the blood vessels become narrower because of the action of the nicotine – the heart is required to beat faster and work harder to pump the blood around the body, putting the heart under strain.
Smoking effects physical fitness – carbon monoxide impairs the functions of the heart, lungs and blood – however, when you stop smoking, you prevent the damage becoming worse.
Ulcers
Gastric or duodenal ulcers are twice as common amongst smokers compared to non-smokers – it is believed that smoking delays healing of the ulcers.
Pregnancy
Nicotine and carbon monoxide in the blood of pregnant woman can enter the unborn baby’s circulation and interfere with its development. Stillbirth and death in the first week of life is 30% more common in babies of mothers who smoke during pregnancy.
Surely, these are enough reasons to stop smoking immediately.
Don’t wait until it’s too late – if you stop smoking before you get cancer, bronchitis or heart disease you are likely to remain healthy. The danger from smoking builds up, so the sooner you stop the better it is.

Hypnosis does not change your moral values and a responsible hypnotist will honor your privacy and protect your rights just the same as any other medical professional. You do need a practitioner who is verified by the National Guild of Hypnotists and who supports their stringent ethical and professional standards. Included in their code is making the mental and physical welfare of all clients foremost. They also defend clients from mental, physical or verbal abuse, and make outside referrals as appropriate.
A skilled hypnotist has the experience and training to address problem behavior, and quit smoking hypnotherapy is the second most frequent type they practice. Using the most current methods which may include the precision of NLP enriched hypnosis and the ongoing enhancement of self hypnosis stop smoking CD’s as well as any physician directed modalities a doctor might also dictate for a patient. Using hypnotherapy does not mean other measures are out of the question, but they may not be at all necessary.
The reason that skillfully used stop smoking hypnosis is the most effective method to achieve success is that it addresses the three basic factors in smoking. No method can succeed that does not address each issue fully and correct the problems each causes. Most people think that the physical addiction to nicotine is the most important element and the biggest problem, but this is simply not factual. If the addiction to the substance called nicotine were the only reason for failure, most smokers would not fail four, five, six or even more times in their efforts to quit for good.
Yes, nicotine is a powerfully addictive substance and for most smokers the physical compulsion is very real and there are withdrawal physical responses that are also real. But did you understand these last only a very few days? In fact, every bit of nicotine is flushed out of the system in just 72 hours or less! For many smokers, it is the fear of withdrawal symptoms and not the reality that causes the most dread and which may prevent even attempting to quit. Yet quitting without therapy has an average 5% success rate! Hypnosis to quit smoking reduces fear of withdrawal symptoms and blunts the effect of any that do result.
Another component of smoking is that it provides relaxation, just as using a pacifier soothes and calms babies. Many people treat stress and anxiety with some form of oral soothing like smoking cigarettes or eating. Hypnotic relaxation can replace the comfort factor received from smoking cigarettes, which reduces the insistent urges and produces the benefits of quitting instead. The mind can be conditioned to substitute the same feelings from other activities that are beneficial, not harmful. Neurolinguistic techniques can educate the brain to remove any linkage between smoking cigarettes and comfort.
In conclusion, part of the smoking addiction is plain old Pavlovian conditioning. Smokers learn to connect smoking with certain activities, from the movie cliché of the cigarette after physical relations to automatically lighting a cigarette while consuming alcohol or watching television or talking on the phone. Here stop smoking hypnosis can permanently sever the connection, and when the link is no longer present, there will be no conditioned reaction to have a smoke when the coffee is poured or the cocktail is presented. The mind is conditioned to associate good things with the former triggers, or to recall the helpful effects of quitting or the negatives of the tobacco.
A skilled hypnotist will use both negative and positive associations to replace conditioned associations with smoking, selecting those most powerful for an individual smoker who wants to quit. Quit smoking hypnosis is the only treatment modality that can fine tune the treatment to each of the three factors in smoking and completely eliminate them. Virtually everyone quitting requires support, but only smoking cessation programs using hypnotherapy effectively make you your own instant and always available support system.
