PostHeaderIcon Phone Fear and the Home Based Business

Fear of picking up the telephone and speaking to people is, for some, a very real phobia. So much so that the very thought of picking up a ringing phone can set off an anxiety attack, palpitations, feelings of dread and nausea etc. For this extreme phone fear there are a range of treatments available, including hypnotherapy, that can help.

If this is you, and you feel alone, don’t! You only have to type the phrase ‘phone fear’ into google to see that there are many, many sufferers. But for the home based business entrepreneur, fear of the phone is something that you will need to master if you want to make a success of your business because, unfortunately, few businesses will survive without telephone contact. Even successful sales people experience periods of phone fear. Times when it’s easy to find ‘other’ jobs that need doing first in order to avoid picking up the phone. Filing every piece of paper on the desk, making a few lists, doing the washing/ironing/cleaning .. sound familiar?

So how can we overcome these fears? One of the first steps to overcoming phone fear is to understand exactly what it is that we are afraid of. Is it fear of rejection? fear of appearing pushy? fear of not knowing what to say and becoming tongue-tied and stammering? fear of someone asking us a question that we don’t know the answer to? A feeling that the person on the other end just won’t be interested? It may be one, or all of these, but it’s important to understand your fear in order to take steps to overcome it.

Many years ago I had a bad stammer which became worse the more I couldn’t say particular words. For me, help came in the form of a group of friends who made a game out of my stammering, each trying to guess what I was trying to say as I got more and more embarrassed. At first, I thought they were laughing at me and making fun of me, but I soon realised that they too were a little embarrassed by my discomfort and were trying to help. Over time, I learnt to laugh with them when they played the game, and the laugh brought about a release of tension that enabled me to speak properly. As I became more and more relaxed in the company of other people and more confident about myself, the stammer disappeared, but I never forgot the unconscious kindness of that group of friends.

To become a success in your home based business, you have to generate a confidence to others because, after all, you are trying to convince them to join your business or buy your product. If phone fear is stopping you from doing this, take some steps to enable you to relax and feel comfortable with the telephone.

Ask someone to help you. Prepare two or three ‘opening’ sentences – you will rarely need more than these – and perfect them so that you say them naturally. Try not to give your prospect the opportunity to say ‘no’ with a poor opening like “I wondered if you’d had a chance to look at the dvd I sent you?” – far better to say something like “I’m ringing as promised to find out what parts of the dvd you liked best.” Ask your friend to be your prospect and respond to you. Role play can seem very daunting at first, but if you turn it into a silly game, it will soon have you laughing at yourself until, ultimately, you will feel more comfortable.

Take this one step further from the introductions, and practice some follow-on conversations. Jot down some scripts of questions and answers with your friend and go through them until you have the answers off-pat. If you need to keep your ’scripts’ by your side for the ‘real’ phone calls, by all means do so, but try to make yourself sound natural – it’s so much better for rapport-building than sounding as if you’re reading from something.

Also, ask your current clients what they’ve found best about your products. Knowing what works helps you to feel confident when talking to others. Next. Allocate yourself a specific time frame – say a half-hour slot – and have a go. Try rating each conversation on a scale of 1-10 where 1 is a prospect slamming the phone down on you, and 10 is a sale. Treat it like a game and you will be less likely to be overcome by fear. You’ll probably find that most scores will hover somewhere in the middle, initially at least, until you become more relaxed, more knowledgeable, and therefore more enthusiastic on the phone. Practice this again and again, and your home based business is well on the way to success.

Finally, learn to Listen. Try to develop the mindset that you don’t have to chase the sale on every single call. Build a rapport with your prospect so that you can genuinely help them with your product or service. Be honest if it’s not the right product for them. Many times I’ve given people advice that at first seems detrimental to my own business, but my honesty has led to ‘word of mouth’ referrals and repeat business.

Above all, the telephone is not your enemy. You are! If you want your home based business to be a success, you will need to understand this and overcome it but, in the process of learning how to overcome your phone fear, you may just realise a new found self-confidence that you didn’t know you had!

Hypnotherapy Anxiety – Cure Anxiety using Hypnosis

PostHeaderIcon Insomnia And The Best Cures

Do you go to bed around the time that everyone else is getting up? It may be cold comfort to know that you are among the 20 million Americans who endure insomnia. If dark circles, a groggy head and nights spent lying awake have become commonplace for you, a hypnosis insomnia program could bring the relief you long for.

No doubt you feel you’ve tried everything to fall asleep, including a stiff drink, over-the-counter-sleep aids or even highly addictive sleeping pills. All lead to the same end: You form a tolerance, your “sleep” isn’t restful and the next morning, you felt drugged and lethargic. Hypnotherapy for insomnia can bring safe, effective sleep with no side effects.

Many people erroneously believe that hypnosis is sleep. But effective self-hypnosis insomnia programs will only bring results if you are awake while in a deeply relaxed state. In this state, your unconscious is more open and accepting to suggestions. In the most successful programs, post-hypnotic suggestions are given to you to eliminate tension and create a positive expectation of restful sleep. Self-Hypnosis for a sleep disturbance is frequently effective after the initial session because we are inclined to get what we expect, so you will sleep soundly all night long.

After thoroughly relaxing, the next step in hypnotherapy for insomnia is understanding what induces you to suffer from a sleep disturbance. Another important component of a hypnosis insomnia course involves looking small changes to your evening ritual that will have the greatest effect on your ability to promptly fall asleep for restful and sound slumber all night long.

At the crux of a successful NLP insomnia program lies Neuro-Linguistic Programming, or NLP. Powerful NLP techniques can be used to “flip” things around in the unconscious so that thoughts and experiences that previously triggered stressful feelings will actually cause relaxation instead.

Reducing feelings of stress is paramount for a NLP insomnia treatment to be effective, and NLP visualizations can program the unconscious to immediately extinguish troubling thoughts and feelings that create stressful feelings. These serene feelings stay with you through the day so that when it is bedtime, you can fall asleep quickly and rest throughout the entire night without interruption.

In addition to using effective NLP techniques in NLP insomnia programs, Ericksonian Hypnotic Metaphors are also worthwhile. Basically, a qualified hypnotist creates a metaphor, or a parable, that directs your unconscious to soothe your thoughts-especially at bedtime-to stop any fear or anxiety about staying awake.

To permanently overcome a sleep disturbance, finding out how to relax with self-hypnosis is essential, but it is not always feasible to listen to a CD or watch a DVD. Learning how to give yourself post-hypnotic suggestions anytime, anywhere to trigger deep relaxation can be accomplished effortless. That’s right-you can successfully use self-hypnosis insomnia suggestions any time you need them.

NLP insomnia programs can’t hurt you in any way. A hypnotist can’t make you do or say anything that you do not wish to. You remain in complete control, and there is no “hypnotized feeling” that you have to overcome. In fact, the worst that could possibly happen is that you could fall asleep for 30 minutes or so. That is the goal of hypnosis for insomnia in the first place!

Hypnotherapy instructions for insomnia can be directives to the unconscious to draw on pleasant fantasies and memories to trigger pleasant dreams and relaxation. You will feel peaceful at bedtime and have a positive expectation of sound and restful sleep. And that positive expectation will ensure that you fall asleep promptly, and the dreams will make you sleep soundly and restfully all through the night.

Additionally, NLP programs are highly effective; it has been found that most people are hypnotizable to a greater or lesser extent. However, people with less than a 70 IQ or those who are in an active state of psychosis typically are not hypnotizable. Most senile people are also hard or impossible to hypnotize. As with any move to increase the quality of your life, your motivation is imperative for success.

Everyone responds differently to each type of hypnosis, so be sure your NLP insomnia program offers several different methods, like NLP and Ericksonian Metaphors, to give you the outcome that you seek. Most NLP insomnia program participants find their sleep issues are alleviated by hypnosis, and insomnia simply fades away like a bad dream.

Hypnotherapy Stop Smoking – Do It Now! Never Look Back!

PostHeaderIcon Overcoming a Fear of Laser Eye Surgery

Laser eye surgery, to badly paraphrase the Clash song ‘should I go for it or should I not’? It does not matter how rational I tried to be when I attempted to answer that question as emotive factors would always cloud my judgement. I could tell myself that it is like flying, large numbers of people do it everyday safely without any harm befalling them. There would always remain a nagging doubt lurking somewhere in the back of my head concerning how safe it really is. The urban myth that during the procedure you can smell your eyes burning did not make me want to rush out and sign up for laser eye treatment. The idea of smelling my eyes burning is not something that I ever wanted to experience.

To help me with my decision I wrote a list of pro’s and cons. The column for the pro’s outweighed that of the cons by a considerable distance. That though was still not enough to make me take the plunge and commit to signing up to get it done. The real issue that I had was that I am scared of having it done. The thought of anyone or anything going near or touching my eye fills me with real terror.

This fear could be the result of natural survival instincts, always necessary for self preservation, or it could be the result of watching too many horror films as a child. Directors of horror films have a real gift for innovation when it comes to inflicting severe pain on eyes. They have an ability to conceive of numerous and particularly sadistic methods of inflicting damage on human eyes. When I think of my eyes being held open for the procedure I always think of the scene in A Clockwork Orange when the main character has the metal structures attached to him to force his eyes open while being made to watch a series of horrific images as an evil looking scientist keeps applying eye drops to the incapacitated subject. This scene was wonderfully parodied in an episode of the Simpsons.

It is this fear of someone or something coming into contact with my eyes that was the real problem. It was when I realised this that it dawned on me that I was dealing with a phobia. If I was going to have laser eye treatment what was required was that I got rid of my phobia or at least dealt with it.

When I think of ways of overcoming a phobia the first thing that comes to mind is the technique known as flooding. This is when you are immersed in fear until the fear passes away. If someone is scared of snakes the idea is that you make them handle snakes until the fear disappears. There is substantial documentation that indicates that this technique can be successful in ridding people of a phobia. How though would you apply it when the problem you have is with your eyes being touched? Stand in the middle of the street and ask people to poke you in the eye? Maybe I could make it a bit more personal by throwing a party and inviting a few select friends round and having them touch me in the eyes all night. It would be best if going for the second option to limit the amount of alcohol that each guest consumes prior to the eye poking. After some thinking I decided that there is not really an obvious or satisfactory method of using flooding as a technique in this instance.

The next idea to cross my mind was to try hypnotherapy. If watching day time television has taught me anything it has taught me that hypnotism can cure any problem and if it cannot do that it can at least provide a good laugh by making the unsuspecting victim strut about like a giant chicken. Maybe my real problem is that I have an over active imagination but I do not like the thought of someone burying suggestions deep inside my unconscious. I have seen the Manchurian Candidate, the original version not the terrible remake, and the idea of having thoughts buried deep in my unconscious does not sit comfortably with me. Maybe the real problem is with the amount of films that I watch as well as the nature of these films. The best option as far as my general health is concerned would probably be to cancel my membership of the local DVD rental store as well as stopping eating cheese late at night. That might stop me developing irrational phobias in the future but it does not help me in the here and now.

The problem that I was faced with still existed in the immediate. I knew that I wanted to get my eyes done. I was tired of having to wear glasses. As a counsellor would say I had the necessary insight to beat the phobia but lacked the ability to overcome the physical element.

It is all very good to be rational and to understand the phobia but being able to understand it as well as wax lyrical about it would not help me to overcome it.

The way that I managed to conquer this dilemma or at least how to practically circumvent it was partially down to chance.  At a recent ‘social event’ I ran into an old girlfriend who I had not seen for some years, well since we split up to be honest. All the time that we were together she had always worn glasses, she needed them for absolutely everything. She was never without them. This is the first time that I had ever seen her without glasses. In conversation it came out that she had been for laser eye surgery about six months previously and had not looked back since. She testified that like in the TV adverts that a little thing such as no longer having to wear glasses had made a major difference to her life. She asked me if I had ever thought of getting it done. I could have lied but instead I explained about my phobia and how it had prevented me from going for the procedure. Then came the part that really got me, she asked do I think that I am only the person who felt like this? I like to think from a purely selfish point of view that my phobias are unique to me but apparently this one is a common fear. If I am being honest I am not sure that I am all together happy with sharing my phobias with anybody else. It’s not the same as the concern about wearing shoes that other people have worn at bowling alleys or ice rinks. It goes much deeper than that. I like to think that my phobias as with my other foibles are part of what makes me an individual. Maybe that is selfish, but that is how I felt.

This knowledge may have helped destroy my over developed sense of self but it did help me move forward with changing another aspect of who I was, that being my poor eyesight. The advice that I was given was right, the staff at my consultation were able to talk me through my concerns and help put my mind at rest. No matter how daft my questions were the consultant always addressed each point that I made. I took my old school friends advice and even went to the same company and clinic to have the procedure. The difference that it has made is immense, the freedom and confidence that it has given me are I would say immeasurable. If someone is in the same situation that I was in I would happily recommend that they at least take the initial step of at least going for a consultation. I am more than happy to recommend the people that performed my laser eye surgery.

Positive Changes Hypnosis – Change Your Thoughts… Change Your Life

PostHeaderIcon The Importance Of Clean Language

Clean language, saying exactly what you mean is so important in all areas of life. How many times have you heard yourself telling someone, or even yourself in the self-talk you use what you don’t want to happen? ‘I don’t want to buy another pack of cigarettes’, ‘I don’t want to be short of money at the end of the month anymore’, etc. Do either or something similar sound familiar?

Clean language accepts the belief that we get what we ask for. However, since it’s commonly known after years of research that the unconscious mind doesn’t process negatives, what we’d get from the two examples just used would be, ‘I do want to be short of money at the end of the month’, and ‘I do want to buy another pack of cigarettes! Not the desired result, I know!

Known as a ‘waking hypnosis’, NLP is the study of communication; the words and representations we use both internally (that inner voice) or externally. I mention the word ‘representations’ since ‘it’s not what you say, but how you say it’ that can make such a huge difference to your life and the results you have.

Imagine someone saying ‘I love you’ whilst looking into your eyes, soft voice, candles shimmering over a beautiful table in the most romantic restaurant. Fabulous, right? Then imagine how it might feel for someone having been beaten, cowering in fear, with their tormentor screaming with anger that they only do it because they love them. Same words. Two completely different worlds.

So, the words we use are important, as are the tonality and context they’re said in. The third and final area of communication is in our physiology, our body, how we look, stand, or carry ourselves. Think back to some of Think about other often used top tips for creating and attracting success; ‘look the part/dress to impress/act ‘as if’/be aware of who your peer group are’, then ask yourself how you could improve the communication you have with yourself and those around you.

What matters most in communication – words, how we say them, or what we look like? You might be surprised:

Physiology = 55%

Tonality = 38%

Words = 7%

In essence, words are vitality important and so is the way you say it, and how you carry yourself physically when you say it.

Say what you mean

So, clean language is saying what you mean. Think how you talk to and about yourself? Are you supportive, complementary, or your worst critic, first in line to doubt any bright idea? Hear are a few examples of what clean language might look like as opposed to the disempowering messages we sometimes opt for.

- I really believe I’d be great at this. (clean).

- I’m not sure, but I think if all goes well and I don’t run out of money first I might be good. (disempowering!!!!).

- I will take these steps because they will lead me forward. (clean).

- I’ll try, and if I don’t fail who knows where they’ll take me. (disempowering!!!!!)

- What I really want to do is this. (clean).

- I don’t know what I want. I did want to do this, but I worry I won’t get support and I’ll look a fool and I won’t be any good. (Disempowering!!!!!)

Of course, I accentuated the disempowering phrase or when you think about it, have you ever heard anyone come up with phrases similar to those above?

Find a model

The ultimate aim would be to decide once and for all to only ever use clean language from this moment on. If you did, who might you be able to model as a guiding light of how the positive effects of using clean language could be?

Role models can be people we know, get to know, work with, study with, read about in books, and admire from movies and DVDs, etc. for example, Richard Branson is a role model to many entrepreneurs throughout the world, yet how many actually know him as a friend? Sometimes it’s enough to read their book or study what characteristics made them who they are in some way.

Top tips

1. Listen and become aware of how many times you belittle or reduce your light in the world. We all do it sometimes, and just imagine if we did it less how we might then shine more?

2. Make a list of negatives you use. ‘Can’t, won’t, don’t, shouldn’t’ etc. Thing is, the unconscious mind doesn’t process negatives; so ‘I don’t want to be a smoker’ really becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, ‘I do want to be a smoker’. Ouch! Not nice. Make a list every time you say anything negative. Write it down.

3. Look at your plan and see if it can be written in a more positive, enthusiastic, fun, strong, and loving way. In fact, do it anyway! Plans tend to happen more rapidly when we work ‘on’ them and ‘in’ them, meaning they need developing and growing just as surely as you grow and develop.

4. Tonality – even when you’re in a new place in your life, make it sound fabulous and confidant. Sounding confident and self-assured about your project will increase your effectiveness, and you will find yourself believing it too, sooner than you think. Practice to a mirror, to a friend, your coach, the world do it!

5. Physiology. 55%. This is the most instant way to feel better, and for other people to see the difference; walk taller (in every way). Look the part, walk the part, play the part, and finally you will become the part.

PostHeaderIcon Quit Smoking By Hypnosis For Better Health

As the health hazards of smoking become more obvious and laws against the habit become for forceful, many people trying to quit smoking by hypnosis are having more success than with other methods. Smoking is understood to be an addiction to nicotine and not just a habit that is hard to break and some consider the approximate 65 percent success rate as being a good return.

One of the main misconceptions about hypnotism is that people can be made to do just about anything. However, they cannot be made to do something their subconscious would refuse. Many people have been able to quit smoking hypnosis because the suggestion is placed in their subconscious that they are a non-smoker and the conscious mind does not know any better.

When a person is under hypnosis, it is really just a totally relaxed state of mind in which the conscious mind opens and allows thoughts and words to enter the subconscious. The subconscious mind will interpret most of what it hears as fact and if told they do not smoke, their efforts to quit smoking by hypnosis will be successful.

Remaining Smoke Free Is Conscious Decision

Once the person is no longer in this state of deep relaxation, depending on the strength of the suggestion placed in the subconscious, they may rekindle their smoking addiction. Nationally, the success rate to quit smoking by hypnosis is 65 percent on the first session. The success rate increases for those attempting to quit smoking by hypnosis a second time.

Other behavior modifications can be influenced and typically a hypnotherapist or a hypnosis clinic will offer help to quit smoking by hypnosis as well as achieve weight loss. The acceptance of being able to quit smoking by hypnosis is such that some hypnotherapists are offering a do-it-yourself kit, which includes visual stimuli as well as recorded suggestions.

The quit smoking kits are available to be played either on a home DVD player on a home computer and can be used over and over until the desired change in behavior has been achieved. Some hypnotherapists believe these are merely gimmicks and will not provide any beneficial results while others, including people who have successfully achieved their objective, stand behind their success.

Those trying to quit should consult with a certified hypnotist to ensure they truly know how to enter a person’s subconscious mind and plant suggestions the correct way. This technique will certainly be of great benefit to you if used wisely. Enjoy it along with your cigerette free lifestyle.
